School Board Vacancies and April Election

The District 124 Board of Education will have four Board seats up for election next April. Each vacancy is a for a full (four-year) term on the Board. Candidates for the April 4, 2017 school board election need to turn in signed nominating petitions to the Cook County clerk’s office or the Cook County Board of Election commissioners between December 12 and December 19, according to the Illinois State Board of Elections.

Nominating petitions are available for download at www.iasb.com and must be signed by at least 50 registered voters who live in District 124.

A candidate’s petition must include a statement of candidacy, the name of our school district, the name and street address of the candidate, whether the office is a full or partial term, the date of the election, the number of voter signatures required, the notarized signature of the petition circulator, and a receipt indicating that a statement of economic interests is on file with the Cook County Clerk.

Other important dates regarding school board elections include the last date to file objections to nominating petitions (December 27); last date to file a withdrawal of candidacy form (January 26), last date to file a declaration of intent as a write-in candidate (February 2). Prospective candidates can learn more about the filing process by clicking here for an electronic resource guide published by the Illinois Association of School Boards, or by contacting me in the District Office.
