Parker named to D124 Board of Education

The Evergreen Park School District 124 Board of Education has selected Claudia Parker to fill the vacant seat on the School Board.

Parker, a D124 parent who previously oversaw communications and photography for the District, fills the vacancy created when Vice President Julie Egan stepped away from the Board of Education earlier this year. She will complete Egan’s term, which runs through April of 2019.

“The Board of Education feels that Claudia’s presence as a D124 parent, as well her past experiences managing communications for the District, make her an excellent fit on this Board,” BOE President Kim Leonard said. “We look forward to leaning on Claudia’s expertise as the School Board continues to do everything it can to ensure that every student in the District receives a quality education.”

Claudia and her husband, Don, have lived in Evergreen Park for 18 years. They have two daughters – Donae, 11, who attends Northeast School, and Rhonda-Rene, 7, who attends Northwest School.

“I see the role of a Board member as an opportunity to facilitate the initiatives of the superintendent, teachers, and administrators. It’s also a great way to deepen communication between the school district and community,” Parker said. “I’m proud of having worked in District 124 for two years. I’m looking forward to reconvening that work, but in a different capacity, serving on a great team, as a board member.”

Parker’s appointment was made official during the Board of Education’s Organizational Meeting on Aug. 27. At that meeting Sean Hynes was appointed as the School Board’s new vice president, replacing Egan in that capacity.

Parker’s position, as well as three other seats on the board, will be up for election on April 2, 2019.
